Cozy Comfort Foods for Fall

A lot of people tend to love the autumn season for a variety of reasons, such as the cooler (but not cold) temperatures, the beautiful color-changing leaves, occasions like Thanksgiving and Halloween, and, of course, the food. Fall comfort foods are not only delicious, but they also make you feel warm and cozy inside. There’s nothing quite like settling in with the right food when the temperature starts to drop – some comfort foods are just not the same when it’s hot and sunny outside. So, if you’re ready to fully embrace the fall weather and all of the tastes and flavors that come along with it, consider trying some of our favorite cozy comfort foods for fall below.

Chicken and Biscuits

A midwestern and southern favorite, chicken and biscuits combine two already comforting foods into just one dish. Add in some vegetables, spices, and milk, and you’ve got yourself a warm and hearty meal in 30 minutes, making it the perfect to throw together for dinner after work and school. Check out a recipe for Homestyle Chicken and Biscuits here.

Chicken Soup

Arguably, part of the reason that chicken soup tastes so good when you’re sick is because there’s just something very comforting about this dish. The canned version is fine when you’re in a pinch, but homemade chicken soup really knocks that store-bought stuff right out of the park. Try making a warm and tasty bowl of Homestyle Chicken Noodle Soup here.

Chili

There’s nothing quite like putting on a football game in the afternoon or evening and indulging in a bowl of warm chili. Or, if a whole bowl isn’t your thing, you could serve it as a topping over nachos, fries, or even baked potatoes. Though some people may think of chili as a meat dish, it’s actually quite delicious as a vegetarian option. If you haven’t tried it before, you should give it a go – you may not notice that much of a difference! Find a recipe for Homemade Vegetarian Chili here.

Shepherd’s Pie/Cottage Pie

Vegetables, gravy, mashed potatoes, meat…doesn’t that sound like a satisfying dish on a cool fall night? Interestingly, while a lot of people in Canada and the US often use ground beef for the meat and call it Shepherd’s Pie, traditional Irish Shepherd’s Pie is actually made with ground lamb. Cottage Pie is the proper name for what is essentially the same dish made with ground beef. The meat may make a difference in some recipes, but you can use either in The Best Classic Shepherd’s Pie recipe here.

Pie

Thanksgiving is practically THE food-related occasion of the season (candy doesn’t count!), so what fall comfort food list would be complete without pie? Yes, turkey is also often synonymous with Thanksgiving, but it really doesn’t give you that same cozy feeling as a slice of pie. The mix of fruits and spices all wrapped up in a flaky crust? It’s hard for even those who typically dislike desserts to resist! If apple pie especially is your thing, then try this Apple Pie from Scratch here.   Don’t have the time to make these recipes at home?
